Casey Stoner bank-buster & UK bargains

(April 12, 2024, by Guy 'Guido' Allen)

casey stoner ducati gp7

A recent major auction by Iconic in the UK threw up a weird mix of results, revealing a patchy market, including a former Casey Stoner team Ducati GP7 (which we highlighted last month) that failed to sell and is now on offer at a staggering Au$794,000 (US$518,000, GB£413,000).

ducati 888

By way of contrast one of the solid buys of the event was another Ducati, a 888 SP5 listed as number 052 of 500 in good shape and showing 8500 miles (13,700km). It went for Au$33,200 (US$21,600, GB£17,250).

vincent rapide

Potentially an even better acquisition was this 1949 HRD Vincent Series B Rapide at Au$41,000 (US$26,700, GB£21,275). It was listed as an older restoration and sold for considerably less than the same bike would be expected to fetch in the Australia and the USA.

kawasaki z1

Z1 and Z900 Kawasakis still seem to be solid currency, with the top price paid for a 1972 machine listed as a pre-production press bike. It went for Au$49,800 (US$32,500, GB£25,875).

This auction had several Z1/Z900 variants on offer. Z1As and Z1Bs were generally going for around Au$29,000 (US$18,800, GB£15,000).

bsa a10 golden flash

Our Cheap & Cheerful Runner award goes to this 1961 BSA A10 Golden Flash, retrofitted with an electric starter at what was probably huge cost to management. How much? A snip at Au$4400 (US$2900, GB£2300).
