Commando in a crate for auction, September 23
A Commando from the last year of production Norton Villiers Triumph has surfaced, still in its crate and is being offered for auction in the UK. The 1977 850 Interstate Mk3 was originally bought by a Belgian dealer, who had a fleet of 11 socked away in crates. They were split up and sold in 2010, after his death, for an average of around Au$30,000 (US$21,000, £16,500). This example has since had a string of owners, travelling to Holland, Spain and finally back to England. It comes complete with all the original literature and even a bottle of factory chain lube. H and H is auctioning the machine and has an estimate of Au$35-45,000 (US$25-32,000, £20-25,000). The auction happens on November 14. See the story on our Mk3 Commando (above). See a period road test on the Mk2 here, at Classic Two Wheels.
