Ducati leads charge at Shannons auction, November 19
Last night’s Shannons classic auction across Sydney and Melbourne saw the firm sell its biggest offering of motorcycles.
Prices were generally strong, with a couple of surprises thrown in. For example a 1974 Ducati 750 Sport (lot 91 – above) exceeded its upper (and credible) estimate of Au$44,000 by nearly 50 per cent – reaching AU$65,500 (US$47,800, GB£36,000).
Ducati prices were generally buoyant, with a Desmosedici RR (lot 96 – above) fetching Au$74,500 (US$54,300, GB£41,000) and a 1985 Hailwood Mille (lot 93 – below) scoring Au$37,500 (US$27,400, GB£20,700).
A very well presented 1965 Yamaha YDS-3 (lot 83 – above) exceeded expectations at $14,500 (US$10,600, GB£8000).
The most expensive lot was something of a curiosity, a 1905 Zenith Bi-Car (lot 106 – above) believed to be the only surviving example in the world. It fetched an incredible Au $100,500 (US$73,300, GB£55,400) against an upper estimate of Au$60,000.
