results August 2022 This week's Shannons Winter classics
auction showed some mixed results, though motorcycles
generally did pretty well. The 1981 Ducati Hailwood
900 shown above was one of two on offer and fetched a
solid Au$36,500 (US$24,400, GB£20,700). The most expensive two-wheeled
offering, a 1952 Vincent Black Shadow (above), saw bidding
surpass Au$160,000 (US$111,000, GB£92,000) but
surprisingly that wasn't enough to take it home. However Brit bikes generally did okay.
This 1951 Triumph Speed Twin looked like solid value
at Au$22,000 (US$15,300, GB£12,600). As did this 1968 BSA
Spitfire MkIV at Au$18,100 (US$12,600, GB£10,400). A couple of 1972 Norton Commando 750s
were on offer and this one (the
closest to stock trim) went for Au$25,500
(US$17,800, GB£14,700). See our Norton
Commando profile Across the Atlantic, this Harley-Davidson
XLCR 1000 went
for Au$27,500 (US$19,100, GB£15,800). Cafe racers
are not historically the Motor Company's stock-in-trade,
which makes this one stand out as a collectible. We've seen some strong prices for 1930s
motorcycles over recent years, including for leaf-spring
Indians. This 1934 Scout 45 (750) got plenty of
interest and sold for Au$56,000 (US$39,000,
GB£32,300).
There is still good value among air-head BMWs. This 1973 R90/6 would make a very use-able classic and went for Au$16,000 (US$11,100, GB£9200). There was a modest fleet of Honda mini
bikes and Monkey bikes on offer. This 2007 Z50 40th
anniversary model was the premium lot,
selling for Au$10,000 (US$7000, GB£5800). Japanese hero bikes form the 1970s, as
always, did respectably. This 1973 Honda CB750-Four K3 was
good buying at Au$14,200 (US$10,000, GB£8200). See our Honda
CB750-Four profile We've seen prices for Kawasaki Z1 and
Z900 fluctuate over recent months. This 1975 example sold
for Au$27,200 (US$18,900, GB£15,700). That effort was outdone by the king of
the strokers of the period, a 1973 Kawasaki H2A 750
triple, which in all its tangerine
glory fetched Au$29,000 (US$20,200, GB£16,700). See the main
