Centennial Suzukis (September 15, 2020) Suzuki is releasing its 100th anniversary range in Australia, with three variants of the GSX-R line-up: 600, 750 and 1000. The company was formed by Michio Suzuki as Suzuki Loom Works in 1909, then incorporated as the Suzuki Loom Manufacturing Company in 1920. Its first venture into powered two wheels was in 1952, with a 50cc two-stroke auxillary engine for bicycles called the Power Free. In 1954 it changed its name to Suzuki Motor Company and produced its first motorcycles, the Colleda 125 series, the following year. The company says the livery on its current MotoGP GSX-RR (above) is inspired by its 1960s racers like the ex-Barry Sheene RT67 pictured below. In turn, the MotoGP paint has influenced the styling for 100th anniversary production bikes. Just 30 examples of the GSX-R1000 (above and at top) will be available at $26,990. It will include a quickshifter as standard. 50 GSX-R750s will be available at $17,490. 10 GSX-R600s will be available at $16,490. All prices are ride-away and the bikes should be available from January 2021. If you see one in your future, Suzuki is recommending you pre-order via the 'build your bike' page at suzukimotorcycles.com.au or your nearest dealer. ------------------------------------------------- Produced by AllMoto abn 61 400 694 722 |
