Pondering the ones that got away

It's year 2000 and two very different motorcycles have since experienced two very different journeys in the market.

Both were advertised by Mildura Motorcycles in Motorcycle Trader magazine.

The Speed Triple is worth no more and perhaps a little less in 2023 than it was in 2000. Think Au$7-9000 (US$5-6000, GB£4-5000).

That surprises us a little, as by now we would have expected them to catch on as a modern classic. Maybe in the future, but don't hold your breath waiting for it.

In the meantime we've seen the values of classic bevel Ducatis shoot for the stars, depending on model. A 1982 900SS in need of a tidy-up (as the ad suggests) should easily fetch Au$25,000 (US$17,000, GB£13,000), while one in good condition is worth more like Au$40,000-plus (US$27,000, GB£21,000). Early 900SS will fetch considerably more.
